Dental veneers are thin, custom-made covers for the front teeth. Dental veneers are used to glue the teeth together. Dental veneers can change the shape, size, length, and width of your natural teeth. Dental porcelain laminates are constructed from substances that resemble your natural teeth. Dental veneers are known as porcelain veneers in dentistry.  Dr. Amit Shah has over  20+ years of experience with dental veneer procedure since 2002.

What are dental Veneers?

Individualized, very thin tooth-front covers are called dental veneers. When attached to the front of the teeth, dental veneers can alter the size, shape, color, or length of the teeth. Veneers are made of materials that go well with your natural teeth. Dental veneers are usually referred to as porcelain veneers by dentists.

What are the kinds of Veneers?

Composite Veneers

Composite veneers are less invasive and require less enamel removal. Composite material veneers blend organic and inorganic components. The coupling agent, resin, and initiator are the organic components, whereas the filter is the inorganic element used in composite veneers. Composite laminates have an extremely slim probability of damaging your gum tissue. Composite veneers can be easily fixed if they are broken or damaged. They may appear natural, but eventually they run the risk of becoming discolored. Composite material veneers have a lifespan of five to seven years. Because composite veneers are less expensive than porcelain laminates, many people prefer them.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers made of porcelain are flawless, tooth-like, and color-matched to your natural teeth. Your gums and nearby teeth are secure with stain-resistant porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are less likely to break, chip, or fracture. With appropriate dental hygiene, plaque collection on porcelain veneers is rare. These veneers are extremely durable and resilient; they typically last between 8 and 15 years. Porcelain veneers are the greatest choice for people who only wish to slightly alter their teeth, such as modifying the size, shape, or color of their teeth.

What are Lumineers?

Lumineers are the name given to porcelain laminates. Little preparation is required for Lumineers because they are made of a very thin porcelain laminate material. Less natural tooth material is removed from your teeth in order to lightly prepare them for a veneer implantation. Lumineers are frequently used to treat teeth with stains and irregular shapes. These veneers feel soft to the touch, which gives them a natural-looking appearance. Although less expensive than porcelain veneers, Lumineers are rigid. Lumineers have a shorter lifespan since they are more likely to fracture and break.

What is the process for dental Veneers?

1. Plan for Examination and Treatment. This takes place at the first dentist appointment. The patient might discuss any oral health issues or cosmetic goals throughout the visit. After the doctor checks your teeth, dental veneers can be a great solution for you. The patient will receive a thorough explanation of all possible restorative and aesthetic options, including any fees involved.

2. Mouth preparation and creation. The second appointment will cover the critical steps in the dental veneer procedure.

  • Preparing the mouth. The dentist will remove a thin layer of enamel to make the veneer the proper thickness. The gums may be harmed if the enamel is removed. There can be a brief period of mild pain prior to the area healing completely. Don’t worry; the gums will start to heal quickly after a few days, and you’ll be back to normal. The dentist will complete any partially fractured teeth before applying veneers.
  • Constructing a model. The dentist will make an impression (model) of the patient’s teeth after cleaning the patient’s mouth. This model is delivered to the production lab. The veneer will be made by qualified technicians using the chosen material and color as directed by the dentist. The duration of the procedure, which usually coincides with the patient’s gums’ healing and ease of fitting into their teeth, may exceed ten days.

3. Application. The dental veneer process is now finished. Usually, it takes longer than ten days to complete this. The patient’s teeth will be meticulously cleaned, polished, and filed. This makes it easier for the veneers to stick to the teeth. A clear glue is then used to secure the veneers. A nontransparent cement will be used to apply the porcelain material to the stained teeth. The cement is shaded to resemble the neighboring teeth in order to appear natural. Following a successful application, the patient will be instructed to shut their mouth to check that the upper and lower teeth fit comfortably and properly.

Dental Veneers FAQs

I have dental veneers; what should I avoid eating and doing?

Avoiding the following foods and habits will help your dental porcelain laminates last longer.

  • Hard-to-chew meats
  • Syrupy or gummy foods, such as caramel
  • Hard candies, ice, and nuts
  • Tomatoes, berries, ketchup, tea, coffee, or soda are examples of foods that stain.
  • Alcohol weakens the surface of the bonding substance.

Can dental veneers erode a person's teeth?

Although dental veneers cannot in and of themselves cause tooth decay, the tooth they are affixed to might develop a cavity. If you get routine dental exams, your dentist will be able to see any anomalies before they worsen.
